Australia, Canada and India announced a landmark step in global technology cooperation with the creation of the Australia Canada India Technology and Innovation Partnership, a new trilateral framework designed to advance shared priorities in critical and emerging technologies, green energy innovation and resilient supply chains.

This collaboration marks a significant elevation of technological ambition between the three nations who have long engaged through bilateral channels. The new trilateral platform brings these links together, expanding the reach, the pace and the strategic depth of cooperation at a moment when innovation and security challenges are global and deeply interconnected.

Strengthening Collaboration on Critical and Emerging Technologies

Under the ACITI Partnership, the three countries will work together to accelerate progress in critical and emerging technologies including artificial intelligence, quantum, clean energy systems, advanced materials and next generation computing capabilities. Officials from all sides stressed that the cooperation is not simply exploratory but geared toward practical outcomes, shared R and D initiatives and coordinated policy directions.

The partners agreed that strengthening capabilities in these domains will improve quality of life for citizens, support inclusive innovation and ensure that advanced technologies remain aligned with democratic values, transparency and public trust.

A Green Energy and Critical Minerals Focus

A central pillar of the ACITI Partnership will be the acceleration of green energy innovation. Australia, Canada and India acknowledged that the global transition to clean energy demands open, secure and diversified supply chains especially in areas such as lithium, cobalt, nickel and other critical minerals that enable renewable technologies, batteries and electrification.

By drawing on the natural strengths of each economy Australia’s resource expertise, Canada’s advanced materials leadership and India’s fast growing manufacturing and technology ecosystems the partnership aims to create pathways that bolster resilience, reduce dependencies and support the collective pursuit of net zero.

Joint programmes, research collaborations and industry engagement will be encouraged to scale new innovations, enable faster adoption of green technologies and promote investment across borders.

Driving Responsible Artificial Intelligence for Societal Benefit

The three countries also committed to deeper collaboration on artificial intelligence with a focus on safe development, responsible deployment and mass adoption for public benefit. The ACITI Partnership will explore opportunities to use AI to enhance public services, strengthen digital inclusion, support healthcare systems, improve climate modelling and build smarter industrial processes.

Officials highlighted that the convergence of AI with green innovation and critical supply chains represents a major opportunity where shared principles and shared innovation can make a global impact.

A Future Oriented Framework with Clear Next Steps

To maintain momentum, Australia, Canada and India agreed that government officials will convene in the first quarter of 2026 to advance the partnership’s work programme, define priority initiatives and engage industry, research institutions and technology leaders from all three nations.

The ACITI Partnership reflects a shared belief that democratic technology cooperation, when aligned with sustainability and economic resilience, can generate meaningful benefits for both citizens and global markets.
