Bharti Airtel Limited and Google LLC Join Forces to Build India’s Next-Gen AI Hub and DataCentre

A historic US $15 billion five-year investment in Visakhapatnam sets the stage for India to leap ahead in AI infrastructure, global connectivity and digital inclusion.

Bharti Airtel Limited and Google LLC  announced a landmark collaboration that will usher in a major transformation of India’s digital infrastructure. Together they will establish a mega AI hub and data-centre campus in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, under a multi-faceted investment of approximately US $15 billion over the five-year period from 2026 to 2030. The initiative will comprise gigawatt-scale data centre operations, a purpose-built subsea cable landing station, and extensive intra- and inter-city fibre-network infrastructure — all with the aim of accelerating AI adoption, strengthening the country’s global digital backbone and enabling broader digital inclusion.

This partnership combines Airtel’s deep understanding of India’s telecom and connectivity landscape with Google’s global leadership in AI infrastructure and platform innovation. By embedding world-class AI computing capabilities and low-latency networks in the heart of India, the project is poised to make Visakhapatnam a new hub on the world’s AI map — not merely by hosting data-services, but by fostering innovation, entrepreneurship and enterprise-grade AI adoption across the country.

The data centre and connectivity build-out will significantly enhance India’s capacity to handle the most demanding computing workloads, from advanced language-models and computer-vision systems to large-scale data-analytics and generative-AI applications. At the same time, the new subsea cable landing station will open fresh avenues for international traffic, bringing global connectivity closer to Indian shores and reinforcing the resilience and scale of the nation’s digital infrastructure.

For Indian businesses, start-ups and creators, this collaboration will unlock access to high-performance AI infrastructure domestically, reducing latency, lowering cost-barriers and enabling truly scalable innovation. For consumers and communities the benefits are equally compelling: better connectivity, faster experiences and broader access to next-gen digital services. From a policy and economy-wide perspective, the initiative aligns with national ambitions to build self-reliant technology ecosystems, attract global capital and sharpen India’s competitive edge in the global AI race.

Bharti Airtel’s Vice-Chairman & Managing Director remarked, “This partnership with Google is a defining moment in India’s digital future. By combining world-class AI infrastructure with our nation’s extraordinary talent and expanding global connectivity, we are laying the foundation for India to become a leader in the AI-driven era. With Visakhapatnam becoming a new hub on the world’s AI map, we are ensuring that India has the opportunity to set the pace for innovation, digital inclusion and economic growth — not just for our people, but for the world.”

Looking ahead, the partners will advance detailed planning, secure regulatory clearances, mobilise investment and engage with the local ecosystem in Andhra Pradesh to begin construction and rollout. As the infrastructure takes shape, the collaboration is expected to catalyse job creation, skills development, and local supply-chain growth — furthering inclusive growth and technological advancement across the region.

In summary, this unprecedented alliance between Airtel and Google marks a bold step toward realising India’s AI aspirations. It signals a future where world-scale AI infrastructure sits firmly on Indian soil, where global connectivity meets local talent, and where digital transformation becomes a nationwide engine of growth.
